Kitty Litter is a film which went through many, many iterations. Lulu and Simon, after seeing a dead cat on the way to a stage combat class, came up with the initial concept, and the next day, a script was written. That was April 5, 2021 before we had made Dog Human Vs. Power Human, or even conceived of the VPC. We were set to shoot on at least three occasions, but were thwarted by lockdowns every time. This was a blessing in disguise though, as we realised that this story could be transplanted into the VPC universe. The idea and the world really exploded from there, and 9 months later we had a shooting script that was so much richer and more interesting that what we had started with. What was intended to be a quick little film showing off our new stage combat skills had ballooned into an exploration of a bizarre and extreme universe.

As the script changed, so the storyboard had to keep adapting. Originally We created a spreadsheet and tried to manage everything in there, but it quickly became too slow and unwieldy to manage.
Storyboarder became our go to for, well, storyboarding. It is a free tool and whilst it does have some rough edges, they’ve got a great attitude and are creating the program from a “film-maker first” perspective. I really hope this matures into a fully fledged solution, it’s a great start.
On the other end of the spectrum, we decided to give Studio Binder a go to organise the shoot by streamlining call sheets and shooting schedules. It was ok. They definitely spend more money on promotional materials than features, and have clearly hired a group of offshore programmers to whip up a bare bones proof of concept, which is fine if you’re not promoting it like it’s a fully fledged solution, and charging accordingly. That said, we stuck with it for one month for scheduling purposes but will be looking for other solutions in the future, unless they get their shit together.
